Two arrested for publishing false information about a senior government official

DCI SSU & CR & IB Detectives at Ngeria in Eldoret arrested two individuals for authoring and publishing false information about a senior government official.

33-Yr-Old Isaac Kibet Yego; a freelance journalist and 19-yr-old Emanuel Kimutai Kosgei were arrested Saturday in an intelligence led operation which also resulted in confiscation of a laptop and two mobile phones suspected to have been used in the processing and dissemination of the misleading information.

“The DCI wishes to inform, urge and warn any person who out of malice or sheer morbid hatred for another person to desist from committing any act or attempt against the law as provided under the Communication Act that: “a person who, by means of a licensed telecommunication system, sends a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character; or sends a message that he knows to be false for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another: Commits a crime and will suffer punishment as provided by the law,” said DCI in a statement.

“It is extremely callous for one detached from sense of humanity to cause calculated, choreographed, planned, coordinated, conspired panic, apprehension, shock, devastation etc that may have far reaching consequences not limited to sudden risks to life.”

The DCI warned that those who may be used in the commission of these crimes, the law will be applied to them as well as their principal offenders who aid, abet or counsel them to commit the offense.
